The life of L.L. Hill and Lister Hill

L.L. Hill, the father of Alabama Senator Lister Hill, studied medicine in England with the famous physician Joseph Lister. L.L. Hill’s son, Lister Hill, wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps but, when he went into the surgical suite to watch his father operate, he fainted at the sight of blood. Young Lister Hill would have to find something else to do. He became one of Alabama’s most powerful U.S. Senators, helping make breakthroughs in science and medicine and bringing much of it home to Alabama’s medical center. Alabama today is famous for heart surgery. Film tells the story of L.L. Hill and the first successful open heart surgery of modern times.
