Ezra Cunningham,The Right to Vote
The story of Ezra Cunningham, a black man who grew up in Monroe County, Alabama, near the birthplace of Harper Lee's famous novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. “In the 1950s, the idea a black person voting for a public official in Monroe County was not something we even thought possible,” says Mr. Cunningham. Ezra Cunningham knew that things had to change. In order to change, though, people had to be able to vote. This is one story of the early fight for voter registration.
